Brett is a native of Marion, IA  and is the most versatile musician in the band.  When Airwaves first formed as a band, he played drum-set but later moved to keyboards, guitar, and vocals.  It's not uncommon to see Brett jump in to sing lead vocals from time-to-time, rock out on an electric guitar solo, or even jump back behind the drum set.  During the day, Brett works as a Special Education Teacher at Taylor Elementary in Cedar Rapids.  

Jonathan is a native of Cedar Rapids, IA and is Airwaves' only "full-time musician."  He has a Bachelor's of Music Education degree from Coe College and a Master's in Music (Vocal Performance) from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  Jonathan teaches Vocal Music at Marion High School where he directs all the curricular choirs as well as the extra-curricular show choir, New Creation, and the Spring Musical.  In addition to his work with Airwaves and Marion High School, he is an active musical arranger and clinician throughout the Midwest.  Whether he's belting out Journey and Bon Jovi or performing hits from the Musical Theatre or Opera stage, he loves to perform for enthusiastic audiences.

Meegan hails from Willmar, Minnesota.  When she is not bringing terrific harmonies to the Airwaves stage and being a Mom, she works as an Administrative Assistant for Cornerstone Church, is a substitute teacher in the Marion area, and also serves at the Asst. Show Choir Director and Asst. Musical Director at Marion High School.  Meegan and Jonathan met in the Music Department at Coe College in 1998 and have been married since 2002.  Together, they have two sons and a daughter who share their love of music.

Inspired by the Rock bands of the 70’s, Mike took up the guitar at age 13, at 17 he started playing in local bars. In the 80’s Mike’s band worked through a talent agency out of Minneapolis, playing colleges around the Midwest, and warming up for bigger acts. He also worked for local music stores, and taught private lessons during that time. In the 90’s Mike played in Top Dog and No Spokes, those Rock bands played everything from motorcycle rallies to festivals. Over time Top Dog morphed into Bigfoot Park. More recently, Mike has performed with several Blues acts, including Iowa Blues Hall of Famer, Bob Dorr. And now he is excited to be a part of Airwaves! Outside of music, Mike has been married to Ellen for 33 years, and together they’ve raised three kids.

Originally from Victor, Iowa, Kurt has been playing professionally since he was a teenager. Having provided the bottom lines for bands: Sage, Refiner’s Fire, Top Dog, and Mid Life Crisis, Kurt has also filled in with several other area bands. Kurt cites his musical influences as The Beatles, Boston, Journey and Queen. In the daytime, he is an Account Manager for TrueNorth Companies.

Zach is from Cedar Rapids, IA and has been playing the drums in public since he was eight years old.  A dynamic drummer to watch and listen to, Zach's eclectic musical influences include The Beatles, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Paramore, Billy Joel and John Mayer.  When not providing that rock steady beat that is the heart and soul of Airwaves, Zach is a bartender and server at Biaggi's.

Brian is the brother of Brett and Adam Calcara.  You'll see him running sound for Airwaves at several gigs.  Prior to his work as our Sound Engineer, he was the bass player for both Ramshackle and Stellar Kart.  When Brian isn't mixing sound for Airwaves, he is a busy husband and father of two and works as a Marketing Consultant with HomeAdvisor.

Tim Calcara was the founder of Airwaves.  Tim passed away in May of 2021.  The band was named Airwaves in honor of Tim's life-long career working in Christian Radio.  Tim worked as the Advancement Director at Life 101.9 for many years.  Tim's love of music and his enthusiasm for Airwaves was always present at our performances.  He always found ways to make our performances special and could often be seen 'jamming out' to several songs in our set.  We deeply miss Tim.  Airwaves is part of his legacy and we honor him each time we take the stage to perform and every time we raise money and awareness for the causes that were close to his heart.
