HISTORY

Airwaves was founded by Tim Calcara who was a pioneer in Christian radio and was serving as the Advancement Director at Life 101.9. Tim's long career on the "airwaves" gave birth to our band's name. Tim had the priviledge of performing with his sons on a Mission Trip to the country of Turkey. The band's name was "Emergency Landing" and they played popular American music to eager crowds across Turkey. When he came back, he wanted to recreate the experience of performing with his sons while also using the experience to support local charities and help people.

From the beginning in 2012, Airwaves wanted to use their platform to help people in need. We have done this by inviting audiences to support local food pantries, area non-profit organizations, and even national non-profit organizations. We make music and spread the word about those suffering from hunger in Eastern Iowa and those who have survived human-trafficking. We have had the privilege of performing at many city festivals, county fairs, local wineries, breweries, and restaurants. Past performances include multiple appearances at the Freedom Festival, Marion By Moonlight, Marion BBQ Rendezvous, St. Joseph's Fun Days, Balloon Glow at Brucemore, and regular appearances at both Cedar Ridge Winery and Millstream Brewery.

Over the past 12 years, the band's following has grown and the repertoire has expanded. It's not uncommon for local businesses to run out of space and food when Airwaves plays an event and the number of fans that show up every time Airwaves takes the stage has exploded. As the band moves into their 2nd decade, we are preparing to break new attendance records at local businesses, festivals, and events and are eager to share our music while raising funds for very worthy causes.
